This professional development session brings together makerspace tools, project-based learning, and classroom content. The course is tailored to introduce educators to a variety of makerspace tools and project options, with a focus on math and art for the content area. While there is a specific content focus for these projects, any middle school or high school teacher can take this PDH to learn how to utilize our makerspace tools and reflect on how they can apply what they learn to their curriculum.
Teachers will use the presentation below to independently read instructions and watch video tutorials to learn how to create tessellating patterns in Google Drawing. They will submit their patterns to the Makerspace and set up a time to work with Greta McCarty to create their final project. From laser engraved key chains to vinyl wall art, teachers will have the opportunity to combine math and art to transform their tessellating patterns into unique artifacts. After completing their projects, teachers will fill out a Google Form exit ticket to reflect on the design process and brainstorm ways to integrate makerspace tools into their curriculum.
This professional development opportunity not only supports district goals of integrating technology, makerspaces, and project-based learning, but also empowers teachers to facilitate content mastery while fostering 21st-century skills and creativity in their students.
